Upstart Crows of Santa Fe present Shakespeare’s Macbeth

January 19, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - January 28, 2018 @ 3:00 pm MST

$10

Three casts of actors, ages 10-18 perform William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, January 19-28 at El Museo Cultural, 555 Camino de la Familia, in the Santa Fe Railyard. Directed by Caryl Farkas, with fight direction by Ambrose Ferber.

Tempted by ambition, greed, his wife, and the prognostications of three Wyrd Sisters, the loyal warrior Macbeth murders King Duncan and takes his throne. More murders, guilt and paranoia ensue. During rehearsals cast members have enjoyed delving into the play’s themes with London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art masters graduate and Ducdame Ensemble actor and director Ariana Karp. Come see their answers to such questions as: What was Macbeth’s fatal flaw? Were the Wyrd Sisters witches and did they cause Macbeth to act or merely open a door which he walked through himself?

The Crows are a non-profit 501(c)(3) arts and education organization dedicated to bringing Shakespeare to Santa Fe youth by providing a first-hand experience of the plays in all their depth and nuance. With the help of experienced directors, actors explore Shakespeare’s imagery and rhetoric, creating, through their understanding of the text, beautiful and moving performances. With most roles double or triple-cast the actors collaborate in every aspect of production from direction to stage managing each other’s performances.

The Crows are committed to keeping this program accessible to any child who wishes to participate. Not only are there no auditions or prior experience required, but tuition is kept affordably low and scholarships are available to any family who needs help taking part.
