I Don’t Mean to Offend You: An Evening of Monologues and Performance

Have you ever been told “Hey, you’re very articulate for a black person?” Or “Hey you’re very intellectual for a blonde?”

Do you groan when you hear “I hope you aren’t offended, but — ” because there wasn’t a silence where you could respond that you probably will be? And that you were? And you will be next time?

This evening of monologues and performances will describe experiences with micro-aggressions defined in Psychology Today as “Everyday verbal, nonverbal, and environmental slights, snubs, or insults, whether intentional or unintentional, which communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative messages to target persons based solely upon their marginalized group membership.”
And we ask — when does the Micro become the Macro!!!!!???
