A Celebration of the Art of Herb Beenhouwer, with special guest artist, Frederico Vigil
Santa Fe Living Treasure, Herb Beenhouwer, celebrates his 90th year with a special exhibition of his artwork
(pastel, pen on ink, pencil) at El Museo Cultural de Santa Fe. Additional works by special guest artist Frederico
Vigil will also be on display.
Herb Beenhouwer has been in Santa Fe since 1972 and has contributed countless volunteer hours to the
community by serving on community boards, volunteering in the Santa Fe Public School system as an
instructor and mentor, as well as teaching adults English through Literacy Volunteers. He was declared a
“Santa Fe Living Treasure” in 2015. In addition to his work in the visual arts, Mr. Beenhouwer is an
accomplished cellist as well. This retrospective show will feature Mr. Beenhouwer’s work as a visual artist and
includes landscapes, abstracts, flowers, and more. Commemorating Mr. Beenhouwer’s 90th year, the show is a
celebration of his contributions to the Santa Fe community and his work as an artist.
Frederico M. Vigil, is a New Mexico artist born and raised in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Mr. Vigil specializes In
the ancient and noble art of Buon Fresco. His works for the upcoming exhibit at El Museo Cultural de Santa
Fe will include small fresco paintings; cartones from the fresco process; acrylic landscapes on canvas and
dichos: mixed media on amate paper. Mr. Vigil’s frescos have been created locally, nationally and
internationally. He is known for creating the largest concave fresco in North America, located in the Torreon at
the National Hispanic Cultural Center. At present he is working on a 2500 square foot stair well fresco, with a
theme on the history Of New Mexico wine and viniculture. This project is part of the Albuquerque’s Public Art
Urban Enhancement Division, and is located at the Albuquerque Convention Center’s SkyBridge Stairwell.
