Contemporary Hispanic Market
El Museo Cultural de Santa Fe is proud to present
the 21st annual Contemporary Hispanic Market. This is the 8th year that
the Market has operated under the sponsorship of El Museo. Under this partnership,
the Contemporary Hispanic Market has dramatically increased its presence,
with over 140 artists participating in the 2006 Market, more than double
its size five years ago! The Contemporary Hispanic Market organization
is an operating program of El Museo, providing a continuing opportunity
and the economic focus for participating artists to express the lives of
their dreams!
The Contemporary Hispanic Market is situated the full
length of Lincoln Avenue, from the Plaza to Federal Place. As the artists
presented here illustrate, contemporary Hispanic art is vibrant and richly
creative. They represent the diversity of New Mexico's Hispanic community.
Their work is a blend of their real-world experience, strongly influenced
by their Hispanic parentage and New Mexico traditions, yet unconstrained
and fully expansive in their adoption of modern forms of expression.
In the words of Governor Bill Richardson, "This
event is an important component in the preservation of New Mexico's artistic
history and the continuation of its legacy. The Annual Contemporary Hispanic
Market in Santa Fe is the nation's largest Hispanic art event. It is
only here that the public has the opportunity to see and collect the
work of so many renowned contemporary Hispanic artists. Thanks to the
efforts of the coordinators of this event, all of the participating artists,
and the residents and visitors who attend the Hispanic Market, New Mexico's
tradition of excellence in the arts continues."
El Museo continues its traditions, hosting a pre-market
showing of selected works of the artists on July 26, 2007 at El Museo on
the Railyard. The Market takes place July 28 and 29, 2007 on the Plaza.
We also invite you to attend the Contemporary Hispanic Artists Winter Market
in November also at El Museo.
